Antique Victorian 9ct yellow and rose gold gate bracelet with engraving on the links and a heavy heart lock. Some of the links are rose gold and some a more old gold/yellow gold. The heart lock is rose gold. Stamped 9ct on the links as well as the lock. Completely reversible: it can be worn with either the smooth side or the engraved side on the outside.

NOTES: In Victorian times the gate bracelet (emulating the walls and gates of castles or estates) symbolised love, faithfulness and commitment. The story goes that it is a symbol left over from the “chastity belt” of the medieval times where the lover who goes off to war will put a lock on the love left behind. The bracelet evolved as a symbol of (your heart) belonging to someone.
