NOTES: This ring is a good example of the Edwardian style, going over into the Art Deco period in the 1920's. Edwardian rings were worn stacked, or as a single large piece – elongated, pierced and paved with diamonds. Edwardian jewellery design was light, airy, elegant, and intricate. It often featured exquisite filigree in lacy patterns. Towards the end of the Victorian era jewellery went from large and grand to ethereal and delicate almost overnight. The designs of the Edwardian Era were mostly inspired by eighteenth-century French jewelry. Cartier encouraged his designers to walk through the streets of Paris and take inspiration from seventeenth and eighteenth-century architecture.
