This Victorian Micro Mosaic Brooch of, what looks like, the Forum in Rome, is a little work of art. It was made circa 1860-1880 and has survived, relatively intact, all these years. It was most probably bought as a memento of Rome during a Grand Tour trip to Italy, as these souvenirs were sold in Rome at the time. Creating micro mosaic was a time consuming process. The artist had to lay small, coloured glass pieces onto a glue base to create a design which was then polished and waxed. This brooch is set in brass, with a 19th century tube clasp at the back.
